![]() What's with this lighning bolt on the seat? Was it just imprinted into the side in the same color as the seat so it's not obvious? The first seat photo above does look a lot like I remember it, but I don't recall any lightning bolt. I wonder what my chances are of finding an NOS one of those!? I could restore one if someone had a really nice one I suppose. The LBS replaced it with a black Tuf Neck almost immediately when it kept slipping on me. I think that's the only way I'm going to know for sure.ĮDIT: Upon further reflection, I think that WIN stem is what mine had. If I could find the article with one of the tests in it, from what I remember, my bike was the same as the two reviews I saw BITD. That stem doesn't look familiar, but I'm not sure. It also has the black Velo seat w/ lightning bolt. there was a Winn mentioned, and the 500a I got from my buddy (his old bike) has a Winn stem on it. Yes, you've all helped, getting closer, thank you! It had no lightning bolt, but I'm not sure what if anything it said across the back. I do believe my seat was a Velo, that sounds right. I'm pretty sure my 500a was a late model, I can check the serial later to see if I can tell. My guess is that they switched mid-year or into '85 (whenever end of 500a run was) to an off-brand brake. And yeah, the clamp looked like the Suntour. I actually think it lasted about a week on my bike because it was junk. Win doesn't sound familiar, but could be. ![]() Yeah, I remember the stem being like an SR, but I can't remember the name. The seat post clamp was generic but looked just like the suntour. The stem was a Win? maybe? Suntour or SR style. Mine had a Velo seat with a lightning bolt on the side and Redline across the back.
